Bruce Ramsay, Certified Traumatologist

CTR, TFT-Adv.

Bruce Ramsay, Métis, retired as Deputy Fire Chief from the District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services after thirty years of service.  He is currently a Critical Incident Stress Management Trainer, Counsellor and Consultant in private practice.  Within that practice he delivers training, both through the Justice Institute of BC and through contract to private corporations, Indian Health Services (USA), and other emergency service agencies. 

Bruce is an Aboriginal person (Métis) as defined in the Canadian Constitution and has worked in First Nations (Canada) and American Indian communities over the last twenty-one years providing CISM training to Mental Health Professionals, Counsellors, Tribal Police and community front line responders.

The Traumatology Institute of South Florida University recognizes Bruce as a Certified Traumatologist.  He is also a Certified Trauma Responder with the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists and is a past Vice President of that organization.  He is a well known speaker on the management and development of trauma services, having presented on behalf of the Justice Institute, First Nations’ Emergency Services of BC, the Yukon Aboriginal Health Program, BC Fire Chiefs Association, Aberdeen Indian Health Services, Oklahoma University Health Promotions, Aramco-Saudi Arabia and on several occasions at the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) World Congress on Stress, Trauma and Coping in the Emergency Professions.

He is very experienced in trauma intervention having conducted many debriefings and management consulting services for emergency services (locally and internationally), industry, hospitals and for First Nations’ responders and communities.  He has twice been recognized by the ICISF for outstanding contributions in development and promotion of Critical Incident Stress Management.  

Bruce is also trained in Thought Field Therapy (TFT) at the diagnostic level and is authorized by Callahan Techniques to deliver Algorithm Level Training in Callahan Techniques of TFT.

Pam Ramsay, Vice President - Business Operations

 

Pam brings a wealth of knowledge, training and experience to Trauma Serve.  She is a graduate of the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Business Administration.  Pam has over thirty years of providing excellence in retail, corporate business and customer service.  She worked in customer service before rising to the supervisory role in that division. For fifteen years she performed in the confidential role of Executive Administrative Assistant.  She has spent considerable time in Corporate Business management where she also designed and organized  show booth entries in the food industry for major trade shows and conferences.   As part of her experience she also has been the office manager for a large division of an international food corporation.   Organizational skills and efficiency are the hallmarks of her work experience which is an incredible asset for Trauma Serve.


Janine Jacox, Clinical Director

Janine has a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology.  She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors, has worked for the local Health Authority in Mental Health and Substance Use Services and is the Clinical Director of Ramsay Trauma Serve LTD.  

Janine has a passion for the helping profession which has motivated continued education, practice and community involvement with a focus on helping clients.  With experience in individual and group counselling of diverse populations, as well as the facilitation of a variety of psychotherapeutic groups, Janine easily establishes rapport while creating a safe, ethical and empathic environment for clients. The utilization of collaboration and advocacy in creating support and positive change is an essential part of her practice.

Janine has experience working with individuals who are using substances, struggling with mental health, domestic violence, homelessness, trauma and grief.  As a therapist, she utilizes an eclectic client-centered approach in order to provide individualized support to a diverse population. 

 Janine has additional training in Thought Field Therapy, Core Addictions Practice, Personality Disorders, Domestic Violence, Behavioural Activation, Motivational Interviewing, Responsible Gambling, Advanced response to Violence Prevention, Indigenous Cultural Competency, Suboxone Education as well as CPR Level C with AED.  She also sits on a variety of committees including the municipal Substance Use Awareness Team, Harm Reduction Committee as well as the organizing committee for the RCMP Domestic Violence and Substance Use Workshop.

Steve Fraser, CISM Trainer and Crisis Interventionist

Steve has more than 20 years of experience coaching people through traumatic events, and working with individuals in crisis. He is a sought after resource by both his fellow Firefighters and management in the Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services (VFRS) for his expertise in Critical Incident Stress Management. His training in this area stretches back to his work on the Sunshine Coast with the Ministry of Children and Family and the Attorney General’s office, helping children and families in crises; he also worked as a volunteer firefighter during this time. In the last 5 years, he has developed his expertise in the area of critical stress having recently completed his instructors certification with the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation. He is also a certified Field Traumatologist with the Canadian Traumatology Institute. Currently, Steve is the Coordinator for the 40 member VFRS team, managing more than 80 defusings per year.

Maureen O'Connor, Associate Clinical Director

Maureen has a wealth of experience working with children, adults, and families from diverse backgrounds throughout Vancouver.  She has worked extensively in the non-profit sector, as well as the film and television industry.  She now shares her time primarily between her private therapy practice in Fort Langley, and her non-profit work.  Maureen is also the Owner and Head Trainer at Insight Dog Training where she provides canine behaviour consultations to local families.  Maureen is trained in animal-assisted therapy modalities and continues to advocate for the ethical and functional use of animals within therapeutic settings.

Maureen received her undergraduate degree from the University of British Columbia before commencing her Masters in Counselling at City University of Seattle. Her therapeutic orientation includes elements of psychodynamic, solution-focused, and narrative theory. Maureen’s work is collaborative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed.

Maureen’s clinical interests are predominantly concerned with parenting issues, grief and loss, life transitions, interpersonal and relationship difficulties, trauma, and workplace adversity. In addition to her Graduate work, Maureen has additional training in the areas of crisis response, attachment training, parenting support, child and youth care, and couples therapy.
